What FOIS is
FOIS (Freight Operations Information System) is Indian Railways' own system for managing freight movement — rakes, wagons, and freight operations at a network level. It's the operational backbone behind rail freight, but it isn't itself a consumer-facing way for a business to search and book a parcel-scale shipment.
Where lease holders fit in
The actual parcel van space on a given train — and the rate charged for it — is controlled by a lease holder who has leased that coach or capacity. This is the layer a shipper actually deals with when booking a parcel-scale shipment, whether through a traditional agent, a parcel office, or a direct online platform.
The traditional freight-forwarding role
A freight forwarder or booking agent traditionally sits between a business and this lease-holder layer — coordinating paperwork, checking availability, and managing the relationship so the shipper doesn't have to deal with it directly. That's useful, but it also means the shipper rarely sees rates or options across more than one lease holder at a time.
The buyer model: booking directly across lease holders
QuickParcel's buyer role is built around exactly this gap — rather than being linked to one lease holder (the way a traditional customer relationship works), a buyer's search checks every active lease holder on a route and shows their trains and rates side by side. It's the same underlying rail network and the same lease-holder-operated capacity, just without an intermediary or a fixed relationship standing between the business and its options.
